Becoming a Member of MWBN 

Q: How do I become a member of MWBN?

A: Attendance and membership is at the discretion of the MWBN Directors. Those interested in becoming a MWBN member must:

  • Attend at least 3 MWBN meetings (includes Holiday Event)
  • Be a referral from a current MWBN member
  • Be in good standing with MWBN
  • Meet with the MWBN Membership Director to request a membership application
  • Disclose any other memberships/associations you belong to on your membership application
  • Complete and return the MWBN membership application to the Membership Director
  • Submit a headshot/photo to be added to the MWBN Member Directory on the website
  • Attend a new member orientation meeting. Orientation is typically held at 10:45 a.m. the day of regular MWBN events, but please check with the Membership Director in advance.
  • Please note that we do limit membership based on the number of business disciplines. We require no more than 3 business disciplines (1 per region) per calendar year (i.e., no more than 3 financial companies, 3 Mary Kay representatives, 3 travel agencies, etc.). If you have met the above criteria, please ask the MWBN Membership Director for a membership application at the next event you attend. There is currently not an online application form.

Q: What are the benefits to becoming a MWBN member in 2010?
 
A: You and your company will have the opportunity to:
  • Be listed in the MWBN Online Member Directory so others can contact you
  • Present at an upcoming MWBN meeting to talk more about your business in detail and what you have to offer
  • Place your advertisement as part of your MWBN online membership listing
  • Advertise your upcoming events on the MWBN Calendar of Events site
  • Offer your product/service as a door prize/raffle item at one of MWBN's monthly events and be recognized for your contribution
  • Participate in various MWBN committees
  • Participate in MWBN affiliate organizations/events
  • Receive special discounts only offered to MWBN members
  • Receive special discounts/offers from other MWBN members
  • Receive special discounts for the annual MWBN Holiday Event
  • Receive discounts on annual membership renewals
  • Participate in special MWBN "After Hours" events
  • Ability to receive COSE discounts on certain COSE events

Q: What are the expectations once I become a MWBN member?

A:

  • Attend events that are conveniently located to you.
  • Pass out business cards at the appropriate time or only when asked
  • Be personable and educate others about your business - do not "strong sell" yourself
  • Ask questions of other members - find out what they do and see if in your network of family/friends/professionals whether you can help the other person
  • Be involved in the group - not a wallflower!
  • Prepare a 30-60 second commercial and a 2 minute commercial about what you do and focused on the following:
    • Your name, title and company
    • What you/your business does and how you can help others
    • Your idea prospect/client
  • Prepare to give a 10 minute presentation to attendees on your business to include:
    • Information about your background
    • Why you chose the field your in
    • What your business does and how it can help others
    • Lessons learned in your business
    • Your idea prospect/client
    • No "strong selling". Your presentation should not try to sell your product/service, but to educate the audience on what you do and how your product/service can help others
    • Lessons learned in your business
    • Prepare testimonials or stories that will also help get your message across
    • Bring company literature, business card, flyers, etc. that can be left with attendees. Please ask the hostess where to place your information for the attendees
  • Be available to assist/volunteer at the MWBN events

Q: Is there an annual membership fee to join MWBN?

A: Effective January 1, 2010, MWBN will be instituting a $50.00 annual membership fee
